In this weekend Money Care report, we provide an overview of key macroeconomic developments and corporate results that could move financial markets in the week ahead. The main focus is on Nvidia's quarterly earnings.

Review of the past week:

For investors, the past week was dominated by the release of inflation data in the United States. Inflation in the United States rose more than expected across the board in April. The consumer price index (CPI), core consumer price index and producer price index (PPI) all rose more than expected in April. Annual inflation now stands at 3.8%. Consumer prices excluding food and energy rose 0.4% in April.

Equity markets hardly reacted to this development. Investors focused on AI developments which caused the Nasdaq-100 technology index to hit a record high.

Outlook for the week ahead:

No major macroeconomic data releases are expected in the coming week. The markets are mainly looking forward to the release of Nvidia's quarterly results and the accompanying guidance.

The market is expecting a very strong quarter at Nvidia, with revenue of about $78.5 billion to $78.8 billion and earnings per share of about $1.75. The focus is mainly on the data center division and expectations for the coming quarter. For investors, probably not only the past quarter is important, but especially the outlook for the second quarter. The consensus for Q2 is around $86 billion to $87 billion in revenue. A sharp increase in the outlook would confirm that the AI investment cycle is still running strongly. Given the high expectations, Nvidia will likely need to perform convincingly to maintain the positive sentiment around AI and technology stocks.
