The week ahead: Labor market data and inflation figures!
In Money Care's weekend report, we present you with the overview of the (macroeconomic) events that could cause movement in the stock markets.
Review of last week:
For investors, the past week revolved around the US interest rate decision and the Fed's explanation of its interest rate policy. As expected, interest rates were cut by 0.25% on Wednesday evening. In the press conference, Fed Chairman Powell announced that he wanted to wait and see how the economy develops and that this interest rate cut would be the last for the time being. The financial markets had already incorporated the interest rate cut into prices and reacted somewhat disappointed to the Fed's statements. Future interest rate policy is surrounded by uncertainty and depends entirely on the macroeconomic data published in the coming months.
Next week:
In the coming week, important macroeconomic data will be released and we can count on nervous price movements.
Tuesday is the delayed release of monthly labor figures for November in the US. These Non Farm Payrolls are very important for interest rate policy in the US. The labor market is a focal point for the Fed but has been developing moderately for some time.
On Thursday, we look forward to the release of the US Consumer Price Index for November. Inflation in the US has been too high at 3% year-on-year for a long time. It is important for financial markets that inflation has not risen further as a result of interest rate cuts in recent months.
On Wednesday the EU Consumer Price Index will be released and on Thursday the European Central Bank will make its interest rate decision. In the EU, inflation is well under control and the ECB's interest rate policy is therefore stable. The market expects EU inflation to have risen from 2.1% to 2.2% in November.
