Economic calendar: June 29 – July 3, 2026
Publication date: June 26, 2026
In this weekend update from Money Care, we provide an overview of the most important macroeconomic developments and releases that could influence the financial markets in the coming week. The focus this week is primarily on the monthly employment figures from the United States.
A look back at the past week:
The trading week started on a positive note for the stock markets. On Tuesday, however, investor concerns grew over the high valuations of AI-related stocks. In addition, investors expected that interest rates would not be cut for the time being due to persistently high inflation. This caused the Nasdaq 100 index to fall by 5.5%. On Thursday, the market rebounded following strong quarterly results from U.S. chipmaker Micron.
On Thursday, the core PCE index was also released in the United States. This key inflation gauge came in at 3.4% year-over-year and rose 0.3% in May. This was fully in line with expectations.
U.S. gross domestic product grew more strongly than expected. Economic growth in the first quarter came in at 2.1%, while forecasts had anticipated growth of 1.6%.
Outlook for the coming week:
Investors will be focusing primarily on the release of the U.S. employment figures, the Non-Farm Payrolls, for June. In May, 172,000 jobs were added, which was significantly higher than the forecast of 85,000 at the time. The unemployment rate remained at 4.3% in May, and the average hourly wage rose by 0.3%.
Job growth of approximately 80,000 is expected for June. The market is therefore anticipating a significant slowdown compared to May. The average hourly wage and the unemployment rate are expected to remain stable compared to the previous month.
The Non-Farm Payrolls will be released on Thursday, July 2, at 2:30 p.m. This is one day earlier than usual, as U.S. stock markets will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
